Emergency Preparedness, Itchy Ankle-Style
Hansel is great in a crisis. He moved all the garden furniture into the shed and futility room, weighed down the trash cans with bricks and tied them together, and made sure the flamingo and figurehead from the front of … Continue reading
Aboard the Rebecca Ann
Our biggest catch was a whopping 42 inches and weighed 32 pounds. The striped bass was delicious baked with butter, lemon, onion, salt and pepper. We ate it with rice and salad and were in bed by 9pm. 6 hours … Continue reading
Knickers to You
One of the highlights of the birthday boat trip in Itchy Ankle on Sunday afternoon—a delivery of long-awaited Itchy Ankle Underwear. The entire supply of boxers was quickly snapped up, but we still do have some knickers (size large) There … Continue reading
Not my favorite departure lounge
A tweet from Ireland’s most prolific journalist Eamonn Mallie set me thinking about death this week. “Roselawn: not my favorite departure lounge” he wrote, and I have to say I agree. The cemetery sits high above East Belfast and manages to combine … Continue reading
No oil but vinegar for the Chesapeake Blue Crab
As news of the Gulf oil pollution continues to seep into the national consciousness, the Crone pauses to celebrate the fact that this disaster did not take place in the Chesapeake Bay. (Although, of course, it could have if there was … Continue reading
Burgers and Beans By the Bay
Last night, the Crone, Gretel and Gretel’s young man were invited to dinner by the world’s best realtor, who lives right on the Chesapeake Bay. They ate home made burgers, beans and coleslaw and it was as near a perfect … Continue reading
On Oscar, Alice and Black-Eyed Susans: A letter to Doris Brazil
Blabs, I am so pleased that the moisturiser reached you. I do so share your frustration with itchy spots. The older I get the more cracks in inaccessible places I seem to acquire. Anybody who knows me will tell you … Continue reading

Boating on the Bay, Crab Dip and Crusty Bread
Back to the report of the Cackler’s visit. A Sunday lunchtime drink and a bracing walk home still hadn’t exhausted the Cackler. When Sawhorse Marilyn offered a trip around the bay on her Boston Whaler she jumped at the chance, donned … Continue reading
