Turn your face to the sun

95% of the adult American population is apparently deficient in Vitamin D, and it seems the Crone is more deficient than most. She knows this because last week she had her annual physical. All her results came back a great deal better than she deserved, except for one–Vitamin D. Vitamin D is found in very few foods but is found in sunlight. It’s neccessary for strong bones, and it is also believed to boost heart health and mental happiness. Adults are meant to have a reading of about 35. The Crone’s was 7 and this week, due to the snow and the need for burrowing ‘neath the blankets in a darkened room, it is probably registering only on a negative scale. The doctor prescribed a mega dose of the vitamin, to be taken once a week for 12 weeks, and then followed up with daily doses of an over-the-counter supplement. The only problem is that the Crone can’t hack her way through the snow drifts to get to the pharmacy. The solution? She booked a vacation in Puerto Rico and leaves in 10 days.  The temperature today in Vieques was 82 degrees F, compared to only 27 degrees in Washington DC.  Stay tuned for the Irish girl’s rare exposure to ultraviolet rays…and check out our Puerto Rican pied a terre here.
