It seems hardly fair.

The Crone is feeling sorry for herself, and eating a bowl of fizzy soup. The soup–basil and tomato–is not meant to be fizzy. Like the Crone, it is a little past its best. While the Crone was on the beach last week,  the soup did time in the fridge, which fails to keep things fresh and cool. The fridge has been unfit for purpose since around the time of Obama’s inauguration, and so the Crone has spent the last year eating fizzy things, throwing out mouldy things, or eating canned things. Tonight she reached acceptance that the fridge isn’t going to change and so she got online with and ordered another one. You pay for the appliance and the delivery online. But then you have to call them to arrange and pay for installation. The installation, naturally, cannot be scheduled for the same day as delivery–that wouldn’t suit Best Buy. ” If our installation people get there before the delivery they won’t come back” warned the man at the end of the phone line who, unbelievably, is described as a customer service representative.  “It’s policy to schedule installation for the day after delivery” This will mean taking a Friday off work, and being in DC on a Saturday morning. It doesn’t suit anyone except Best Buy. The Crone burned the toast she was going to have with the soup and close inspection of the pita bread (from the fridge) revealed that it was mouldy. All these items are now in the trash can which the Crone can’t empty because Hansel walked off with the trash room key when he was here last night being helpful. None of this is the sophisticated urban living the Crone dreamed of when she set up her DC apartment. It seems hardly fair.

What kind of refrigerator did you buy that it needs installation? Don’t you just set in place and plug it in? OH, wait, it must have a ice maker!!! It took me forever to find a frig that didn’t have a ice maker. Don’t like lots of gadgets on my appliances that can break down long before the actual appliance does.

And don’t even mention best buy!!!!! UGH.
