The Lesson of the Leftovers: A Reading for Christmas Week

Leftovers are a Christmas blessing. This morning I had a generous schmeer of the goat’s cheese from yesterday’s cheese board with a slice or two of Irish fruit bread someone gave me as a gift. Everyone knows it is virtuous to eat leftovers and thus all calories are instantly negated, washed away by the Gods of Gustation. We’ve been eating ham sandwiches for days, and now we have a pork roast and some cold mashed potato to add to the running buffet. Would it be wrong to have a breakfast Bucks Fizz with the last of the champers before it goes completely flat? Slice of lemon meringue anyone?
