HOW meets Come Dancing at the Shinnecock Pow Wow

Our MP knows how to behave at civic events. Here on Long Island she was not called upon to cut a ribbon or say a few words, but at the Shinnecock Pow Wow the MP for Doncaster Central otherwise behaved exactly as she would at a fete, gala, garden party or constituency picnic  back home. She walked around with her  handbag over her arm, taking a polite interest in all local crafts and produce, and stopping to talk to everyone she could. From the stage, the Emcee invited the drummers and singers to warm up while the dancers assembled for the Grand Entry: a tattoo on the Tom-Toms and much ululating. Awards were to be given for the best Women’s buckskin, jingle skirt, shawl and fan. Men could win for mask, smoke or feather. Each dancer wore a number just like the ballroom dancers once did in Come Dancing. As on the old television show, no-one had stinted on their costume.
